Be-Free Therapies

About Me

My name is Bridget Glenn and I am a qualified & accredited Psychotherapist; providing CBT and other Psychological therapies.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a short term, structured talking therapy.  Unlike many other approaches, its main focus is on the current day and how your thoughts, feelings and behaviours impact your overall wellbeing.

ACT Therapy

The main goal of ACT therapy is to help you improve your ‘psychological flexibility’. A therapist helps you learn skills that help you manage thoughts, feelings, and sensations that you avoid and are fearful of.

Welcome

Welcome to my therapy webpage.  Be-Free Therapies is a private practice based in Dacorum Hertfordshire.  I offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Solution Focused Brief Therapy & DBT Skills work.  I work with teens and adults.

As many as 1 in 4 people will be experiencing mental health difficulties right now. So, if you are struggling at the moment, know that you are not alone.

About Me

Let me introduce myself so you can decide if I am the right therapist for you.  My name is Bridget Glenn and I am a qualified & accredited Psychotherapist; providing CBT and other Psychological therapies.  I am a mother to four children, and I am passionate and committed to my work.    I believe I am an honest and open person with a genuine wish to support others in living confident and well-adjusted lives.

I offer a safe and confidential space to help explore feelings.  When you feel low, potentially misunderstood, or even if you struggle to identify feelings you have, it can be very confusing and lonely. To be heard without judgement allows us the space to process difficult emotions & learn new coping strategies & Skills. We will work as a team, with you at the centre of therapy in a creative way to suit your individual needs.  I hope to empower, help you to grow in self-awareness; to positively change with freedom to choose your own way forward;  whilst using treatments that are based on results, evidence and recommended by National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE).

It can be challenging to trust someone you don’t know while sharing your inner most thoughts & Feelings.  My clients are at the heart of their therapy journey; after all, it’s all about them and their wellbeing.

I offer therapy for a range of emotional difficulties.

Although it can help to have a diagnosis or an understanding of what the main problem is, you don’t need to have these to access therapy. I believe it is important to see you as an individual and create a shared understanding of your needs.

I work with clients from 14 years with a range of issues including:

Anxiety, Depression, Attachment patterns, Emotional dysregulation, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), LTHC, Stress, Worry, Relationship Difficulties, Interpersonal Issues, Low Self-Esteem, Pain, Panic Disorder, Personality Disorders, Sleep issues, Social Phobia, Trauma and behavioural problems & Phobias.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a short term, structured talking therapy.  It looks at thinking patterns and how these often-unhelpful patterns influence how we feel, and in turn how these can impact on our behaviour.   Our behaviour can often be in response to uncomfortable emotions.  Although CBT focuses on present problems it also looks at the connections to our previous experiences as our early years can often set the foundations for patterns of behaviour and our beliefs later in life.  CBT can provide insight and understanding, help us become more aware and thus give us the knowledge, which coupled with the skills learned in CBT, informs change in not only how we behaviour but how we think.

ACT

The main goal of ACT therapy is to help you improve your ‘psychological flexibility’. A therapist helps you learn skills that help you manage thoughts, feelings, and sensations that you avoid and are fearful of.  ACT therapy uses the principles of CBT but blends them with newer approaches and concepts such as mindfulness and acceptance.

Dr. Russell Harris (2011) has defined ACT as “a mindfulness-based behavioral therapy that challenges the ground rules of most Western psychology.” Its unique goal is to help patients create a rich and meaningful life and develop mindfulness skills alongside the existence of pain and suffering.

Solution Focused Therapy

  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), also referred to as Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), is a form of psychotherapy or counselling. This form of therapy focuses on solutions to problems or issues and discovering the resources and strengths a person has rather than focusing on the problem like more traditional talking therapies do.
  • Solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) is a strength-based approach to psychotherapy based on solution-building rather than problem-solving. Unlike other forms of psychotherapy that focus on present problems and past causes, SFBT concentrates on how your current circumstances and future hopes.

DBT Skills

Developed as an adaptation of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), DBT aims to empower individuals by helping them gain a comprehensive understanding of their challenging emotions and providing them with practical skills to effectively manage these emotions.

Through learning DBT Skills, you can expect to: gain insight into and accept difficult emotions, learn strategies for regulating intense feelings, enhance interpersonal relationships, and cultivate mindfulness for increased overall well-being.

(Note this is NOT DBT, DBT is delivered & supported by a Team of Therapists, this is Skills work only).

Experience

I started my career studying to be a teacher and on qualifying started to work in a secondary school for boys with emotional & behavioural problems, it was here that I developed a passion to learn more about why these problems occurred and how I could help ease the emotional distress and suffering.  I left teaching and began my journey into health and social care with a particular desire to work in Mental health, which I have now been doing for over 25 years in one capacity or another.  I have worked with Adults and Children with a variety of complex needs both physically and emotional and have worked with many differing mental health issues such as depression, Anxiety, PTSD, schizophrenia, Personality Disorder which at times have been coupled with drug and alcohol issues, eating disorders and or self-harming behaviour.

I have worked with both adults and children. I have worked in primary and secondary care. I have worked for the local authority/government, NHS and for charities and more recently in my own private practice.  I have delivered DBT skills groups & ACT & CFT groups in Primary care but worked primarily with individuals.

Qualifications

I am a qualified and accredited CBT therapist with a post grad diploma.  I have also trained in Solution focused Brief therapy, Arts therapies, CFT, counselling, ACT and DBT skills work.
